    Virtual Public Hearing: Wednesday, May 12, 5 - 7 p.m. The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is continuing our essential wildland fire prevention and preparation work. This includes finalizing the environmental review for our newly developed Wildland Fire Resiliency Program. At this meeting, the Midpen board of directors will consider certifying the Wildland Fire Resiliency Program Final Environmental Impact Report and approving the program, allowing implementation to begin. The goals of this program are to proactively expand Midpen’s ecologically sensitive vegetation management to establish healthy ecosystems, reduce wildland fire risk and facilitate fire agency response.   2. Sudden Oak Death Testing “SOD BLITZ” - May 14-18, 2021

    1) To participate, simply sign-up with your name and email address at www.cognitoforms.com/UCB2/SODBlitz2021Registration 2) View the the training video at nature.berkeley.edu/matteolab/?p=3314 3) Pick up your collection packet at Town Hall anytime starting 8 AM Friday May 14 (materials are sterilized for your safety). 4) Download the free mobile phone app, “SODmap mobile” to determine location of trees you sample (OR use a GPS device) 5) Collect leaf samples from Bay trees at times and locations of your choosing. 6) Return the collection packet with your samples to Town Hall by 6 PM Tuesday, May 18. Oak trees infected with Sudden Oak Death (SOD) have been identified in LAH. This devastating disease is spreading, and, as its name implies, SOD kills oaks.
