ALPR Assists in Stolen Vehicle Recovery

On Thursday, February 16, 2023, deputies received an ALPR hit on a stolen vehicle in the area of El Monte Road and Hummingbird Court in Los Altos Hills.  Deputies began a search for the vehicle as it continued to hit on other ALPR cameras in town.  With the information provided by the ALPR camera hits, deputies were able to locate the vehicle and attempt to make an enforcement stop.  The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the deputies and a pursuit began, leading the deputies through Cupertino and into San Jose.  The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp turn in San Jose and collided with a center median, rendering the vehicle inoperable.  Deputies quickly surrounded the vehicle and were able to safely take the driver, and a passenger, into custody.

In addition to being in possession of a stolen vehicle, the occupants were in possession of burglary tools and a loaded firearm.  They were arrested for numerous charges and the vehicle was recovered.

Not only did the Sheriff’s Office recover a stolen vehicle, but the Los Altos Hills ALPR cameras helped in getting a firearm and two suspected felons off the streets.  Although there was no evidence collected to confirm these suspects committed any type of theft or burglary in town, it may be safe to say the ALPR cameras assisted in preventing future property crimes from occurring.  These cameras continue to be a valued asset to the Sheriff’s Office in our mission to solve crime and keep the community safe.
