  4. LAH “SOD BLITZ” to Test and Map Sudden Oak Death

    Join your neighbors and other Citizen Scientists in helping UC Berkeley researchers collect leaves from Bay trees in our area to test them for Sudden Oak Death (SOD). Bay trees are the most common host and often the first trees to be infected in an area and then spread SOD to oaks. Due to the exceptionally high rainfall this winter, 2017 could be one of the worst years for the spread of Sudden Oak Death. By attending the SOD Blitz you can help At the one-hour SOD BLITZ training session on April 30, 2017, you will receive a SOD BLITZ collection kit and learn how to recognize SOD symptoms on Bay leaves and collect samples for testing. Then collect samples on your own and return them to Town Hall. The event is open to all and collection materials and testing are free. A follow-up session is planned to discuss test results and treatment of oaks to prevent SOD.
